Dinner and a Movie: The Goonies

My cousin has set up a theatre in her basement and it's pretty fun I have to say. Put that together with our mutual geekiness and I think you can expect a few more Dinner Movie things to come along.

We didn't get very elaborate with our dinner and a movie this time. Since pizza played the main food role in the movie, that was an easy decision (and we helped celebrate the anniversary of a local pizza place, its a win-win). The "Brown Water" the boys get served in the movie was incorporated via some iced tea. I tried out a new popcorn recipe (it's a movie, there has to be popcorn!) and then of course Baby Ruth had to be worked in. My cousin made some very tasty Gooey Baby Ruth Brownies (which were dubbed Goonie Baby Ruth Brownies instead!). 

One Eyed Willie Pirate Popcorn

Coconut Oil
Popcorn Seeds


1 tsp Bragg's Sea Kelp Delight Seasoning 
*(grind it down more if you can) 
1/2 tsp Turmeric (to make it golden like treasure!)
1/4 tsp Ground Ginger
1 tsp Garlic Salt
1 tsp Sea Salt


Butter


Cook the popcorn over the stove using a heavy metal pot. First, place the oil in the pot and let it melt down, then pour in as many seeds as you need depending on your party size (About 1/2 a cup for two people, if this new for you entirely). Because the flavors are pretty powerful, I'd say start off minimal and work up, trying some and seeing how it strick you. Because this was new, I set aside half the popcorn, flavored it (ended up over flavoring because I had to keep tweaking it) and then combined it with the other half and it came out perfect!

This (I believe) is the recipe for the brownies...they sure look the same! They were super good!:

Gooey Baby Ruth Brownies

Estimated Times

Preparation Time: 15 mins
Cooking Time: 35 mins
Cooling Time: 20 mins cooling

Servings: 24 brownies

Ingredients

1 package (18.25 ounces) chocolate brownie mix 

3 (2.1 ounces each) NESTLÉ BABY RUTH Candy Bars, chopped 

1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, at room temperature 

1/2 cup granulated sugar 

1 large egg 

2 teaspoons milk 

Directions

PREHEAT oven to 350° F. Grease 13 x 9-inch baking pan.

PREPARE brownie batter according to package directions; stir in chopped Baby Ruth. Pour into prepared pan.

BEAT cream cheese and sugar in small mixer bowl until smooth. Beat in egg and milk. Using knife or spatula, swirl cream cheese mixture into brownie batter to create a marbling effect.

BAKE for 35 to 40 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out almost clean. Cool completely in pan on wire rack. Cut into bars using wet knife

Nostalgia: Christmas Five Whole Years Ago

I have been working on deleting old stuff from my computer/backing up stuff. I found these photos from 2006, when we (my parents, my brother and I) went to visit my other brother and his family in Georgia. The first grandbaby had come into the world that year and we got to meet her :) We stayed up all night playing video games and had a cookie decorating party. The three of us siblings have not had another Christmas together since (but don't cry, we have gotten to be together since!) So here's my brief trip down memory lane.... 

Baby Bibs!

My brother and sister-in-law have welcomed a third bundle of joy into the world! Yay! So I am putting together a box of goodies for the family.

She is named after her grandmother, isn't that cute name? I've never done baby bibs before. I kept this one cute and simple, but thre came in the pack at Joann's so I decided to get fun with the other two. So I made one for mommy and one for daddy, each appealing to their more geeky humors :)

Here's Daddy's! Although I have been informed by my husband that technically in World of Warcraft the purple items are "epic" and the orange ones are "legendary." Dang it. Brother is sooooo gonna give me crap for that  /sigh... by the way I am quickly learning which fabric pens rock more than others.... see those green letters? yeah i did NOT like that pen.

This one is for Mommy! She's a trekee for sure. If Memmy had been a boy she would have been Ricker. It's true. Oh and you cannot really see it but i did some black glitter fabric spray on there behind the communicator, for some galactic fun :) Didn't go crazy though, you never know what kiddo's will be sensitive to.

So there you have it, my first venture into baby wear. Not perfect, but what else if family good for if not crafting experimentation?

I am such a closet geek, you have no idea. Ok maybe "closet" isn't the right term, but i don't think you'd know i am a geek at first glance. anyway. One of the joys of my life is all this geek crafting going on and I want to be a part of it SO BAD (this cannot be emphasized enough!!!) but I am not quite there yet, so until then I just relish the awesomeness of others. So this post is a dedication to that deep, life long love of the geekery. I am sure there will be other posts like this in the future, since geek craft isn't going anywhere (which is AWESOME)

Yes, its been out but for the MAC which is what i have which means I don't have to ninja someone else's computer to play this with my husband. HUZZAH!

In retrospect...there should be a warning on this entry. *NERD ALERT*  or  *WARNING GEEK APPROACHING* something like that. Too late now, can't go back and edit ;) ha! sucker...

It's been a long week. Among other things, I have decided not to have a facebook account. This blog will now officially contain personal things not everyone will care about but my mom will. And mommies matter, dammit, way more than you random people. Meh, thats conjuecture. ugh! rambling! See? SEE?! I am ready for a break and, today, hopefully, that will actually happen. I will be productive today, don't get me wrong. But come this afternoon I will be entering a nirvana like state in the form of a video game involving simulated world domination and enjoying the mental lapse very, very much. 

I wonder if I can make a tasty treat to honor this day..... The boys really seem to like that Dragon's Breathe popcorn....NO NO I will make a popcorn worthy of Sid Meier's Civilization V. Just you wait :)
